Teen Tracking In Texas
GPS Systems To Reduce Truancy Numbers
A Texas school is taking whole new approach to dealing with their teen truancy problem by using GPS tracking systems to monitor the individuals considered habitually truant. A state judge explained that students who do not attend class are violating the law, and it is the responsibility of the state and schools to make sure that every student registered attend class regularly. The judge is hoping that GPS tracking technology will provide the solution to the truancy problem that not only costs the state money, but also has an effect on student grades.
The GPS tracking systems the schools intend on using will have the ability to document and record the movements of students, allowing school officials to recognize if a student is in class or truant. The school district believes that if they can catch "ditchers" via GPS tracking technology before truancy becomes a sustained problem that they can help the young teens stay on the right path.
School officials also point out that there is a direct correlation between high attendance records and high grades, making the tracking system plan an important step to improving academics across the board.
