Why Talk When You Can Text
Could Texting Be Dangerous?
A new study obtained by GPS tracking system company Tracking System Direct shows that teen texting is out of control. Texting among teens is past the epidemic stage and has become a full-blown mass obsession. Any family that shares a cellular plan will likely notice from time-to-time that their teen has difficulty staying within that plan, going over their pre-allotted minutes. However, if as a parent you do not choose an unlimited text messaging plan you could be in some serious financial trouble.
The reason an unlimited text plan a must for people on the family plan is because according to a Pew Research Center study the average teen is sending approximately 1500 text messages per month. Math majors are not needed to figure out that 1500 text messages a month can equal crazy expensive cellular bill.
Another significant finding from the study showed that females are more likely to engage in texting than their male counterparts.
With smart phones coming down in cost and becoming as much as an accessory as a pair of shoes, teens are becoming obsessed with the need to have the latest and greatest phones on the market. Not to mention, 3 out of every 4 teens now has a cellular phone, making teenagers one of the fastest growing groups of consumers who purchase cellular equipment and accessories. Because what is a cell phone without a cool zebra print or jewel-studded case?
Texting addictions can be a little annoying, but they can also be very dangerous when paired up with driving. Every day someone dies in a motor vehicle accident because of distracted driving, and there is nothing more distracting than sending and receiving text messages while operating a vehicle. Distracted driving and drivers have became such a hot-topic issue that celebrities such as Oprah Winfrey have even created programs aimed at ending distracted driving.
Some parents are even turning to tracking devices such as the GPS Tracking Key or Victoria tracking system to make sure teens are driving safe in a texting-era.
