GPS Tracking Systems & Microchip Technology

child_with_blocksFinding a person who does not believe child safety is of the utmost importance is a very difficult thing, but the one thing many people disagree on is the method in which we monitor and protect our children from kidnappers, molesters and all of the other scum bags who prey on kids. For years, there have been rumors floating around about potential GPS micro chips that could be woven into a child's clothing or implanted slightly beneath the skin that would provide parents a way to monitor every location there child goes with relative ease. Although the truth about GPS microchip technology is nowhere near as sophisticated as it appears in Hollywood films, portable GPS tracking systems are proving to be an effective and reliable solution to enhancing child safety.

GPS tracking children can be one of the simplest and most efficient ways to boost the safety of any child, however, if you are a parent who honestly believes that a microchip can be implanted in your kid that will tell you everywhere he or she is at then you are very mistaken. It is true that GPS microchips are getting smaller and more advanced on almost a daily basis, but that does not mean the technology is anywhere near the level it is often depicted on science fiction motion pictures. The main reason why it would be extremely problematic for a microchip GPS to be implanted into the skin or woven into the clothing while transmitting location-based data is the unit would not have a sufficient power supply. Meaning, there would be no way to "hard-wire" a GPS micro chip to a human body for permanent installation like a car, and no portable battery would be small enough to handle the receiving/transmission of data for more than maybe an hour at the very most.

Surveillance That Works

Vehicle tracking systems are great devices for monitoring driving behavior and activity because they are both small and portable, allowing companies to move the tracking systems from vehicle-to-vehicle with relative ease. However, some of these car tracking systems can also be used by people for child tracking because the trackers are so compact and movable. Basically, a parent could place a device such as the SilverCloud tracker in the backpack of a child or have the youngster carry the system. Since the GPS tracking systems are smaller than a cellular phone, carrying the devices is easy and non-evasive. The parent could then have access to everywhere their child is at all time throughout the day, making it easy to know the exact moment a child arrived at the bus stop, or got to a friend's house. When the child comes home, the parent could then recharge the GPS tracking unit overnight in the same way they charge their personal cell phones every night.

The trackers could also be used as GPS teen tracking systems to ensure safe driving!

At this point in time, the best and most effective type of monitoring device on the market for child tracking would be a portable live tracking solution similar to the SilverCloud system. Parents will have to wait until a sequel of Robocop or Total Recall to come out if they want to see GPS micro chips as effective monitoring solutions.

I think everyone forgets that a good percentage of missing children are taken by non-custodial parents. The court system doesn't always protect children from the dangers of non-custodial parents. These parents have 'rights' and though I don't necessarily agree with them, it is court ordered visitations and this poses an opportunity for kidnappings. I would get my kids chipped in a heartbeat!!

Hi Michele I agree with you in same level. U asked "why not microchip the criminals?" well criminals are not born criminal or maybe they are. But until a crime is committed we don't know who they are. So why wait until they kidnapp, rape and murder a child. And then microchip them. One time, or one child is wayyyyyy to many. In the case of that horrible women Cassey Anthony in my home state I'm trying to pass a law that will give us the right to microchip our kids in this law it will be a crime not to report your child 18 and under missing within 24 hours. In that case she would be in jail for braking that law. Also parents would not have 24 hour access to where their child is only FBI or a special agency will have the ability to locate your child. But it will be a parent and police working together. U would call the special agency to report your child missing with a special code that was provided to u for the microchip. Then police will go into action. Simple and saves childrens life.

Quoting Sean:
Why not microchip the offenders?

Look how many offenders are first time offenders because of a court system that either kept the adjudication off their record or no conviction because witnesses failed to cooperate or judges that were far too lenient.

Remember if Kaylee Anthony had been microchipped maybe it wouldn't have taken 4 months to find the body but on the other hand, it was her mother; Casey Anthony that killed her so of course she would have known about any chip....

I have been Thinking about this topic for a long time. I find hard to believe some of the comments I read. Really Nate??? So... When criminals, rapist, and pedophiles are born, do they come with a sign in their forehead saying "what out, I came to rape and kill your child". NO I don't think so. By the way who told you that this would hurt a child. FOR GOD SAKE we put gps tracking in our pets, why can we put in our kids. no means of comparassing a pet with a child, but think about it. this has so many ways of working.

Nate, You are an idiot and obviously not a parent.
The first thing kidnappers do is take the kids clothing and shoes off. Chipping the criminals doesn't keep them from committing the crime. What are we going to do, make them stay in their house? The laws in this country don't protect our children so parents have to look for the best way to do that. 20-30 yrs from now this will be the norm.
Look up how many sex offenders live near you- I bet you'd be surprised-my 6th grade teacher was a pedophile

And one last comment, if your child needed a prothesis to walk or a knee replacement or a ceramic crown on their tooth ...would you have a problem with that??? It is something synthetic placed in the body, like a pacemaker to sustain life....we are talking about life and death here.....

Nate, in essence you are blaming the innocent kids who are victims. There are many parents out there who are working 3 jobs to make sure their children are fed, clothed and well cared for. How dare you push this off on parents "for not taking care of their kids". Children can not be attached to your hip 24/7, they go to school, play sports and unless you want to lock them in their rooms, there are going to be transition periods. Predators are cunning, they wait for opportunities. Look at Elizabeth Smart, her parents lovingly put her to bed and she was gone in the morning. Don't you dare try to turn this around on bad parenting. Anyone on this post is here because they care and want to prevent their children from being harmed.

Hey Nate, Pedophiles and rapists aren't the only ones who abduct and/or murder children. Relatives, friends, teachers, coaches, parents, you name it, are suspects in missing children. What about those "dumbass" men whose wives or girlfriends go missing?? No one thinks to microchip them before the crime is committed. Do you actually have facts that microchipping children/people is unsafe or are you just spewing crap? I watch my two young children as much as I can but I can't be with them at school all day long (a child went missing locally when his step mom dropped him off at the school door and has not been seen since), or at friends houses, with people you supposedly trust, the Internet friends they may befriend that are bad people and they run off to meet them, etc....
