GPS Tracking Devices Assist Biology Experiments

Learning About Animals Through Technology

Wildlife_trackingMother Earth is the home to a vast amount of animal species, but only recently have us humans been able to extensively observe and learn about the most interesting animals walking, crawling and swimming around us. Monitoring and conducting successful research studies on some of the most majestic creatures was difficult if not impossible for many biologists 15 years ago. Then came along GPS tracking technology solutions, giving scientists a new and unique method to understanding and viewing the movements nature.

Monitoring Wildlife With GPS Trackers

Conservation agencies and other wildlife researchers have been using GPS tracking tools that are normally found as vehicle tracking fleet management solutions to help interpret the way animals migrate, live, mate and interact. The GPS systems are placed upon the animal where the tracking data can be obtained remotely in real-time, or downloaded by the research team if they are using passive recording technology. The information and location-based data from the GPS tracker is then plotted over a chart, map or other mapping software program, such as Google Earth or Microsoft Virtual Earth, where it can be reviewed by biologists, scientists or other researchers.

GPS tracking devices are now used to track the position and location information of family pets, livestock, endangered animals and more.

GPS trackers provide a wealth of valubale data regarding the habits and patterns of animals, allowing researchers to conduct more accurate experiments.
