Californians Still Plagued By Unemployment
According to a press release obtained by real-time vehicle tracking distributor Tracking System Direct, California saw an increase in the number of people claiming unemployment benefits in the month of January, raising the state's unemployment rate to 12.5%. Even more alarming news surrounding the released statistic is that it now appears that 300,000 more people lost their jobs in December after the numbers were revised.
Currently, the national unemployment rate is approximately 9.7%, or nearly 25% less than the unemployment rate in the golden state.
Although there has not been a great deal of positive news coming out of California in regards to job production, the Federal government is doing what it can to extend unemployment benefits, passing the 4th round of unemployment extensions.
One thing some economists say is a bright spot is that California saw an increase of nearly 17,000 jobs in the construction industry, a sector that was hit extremely hard by the housing bubble burst and accompanied recession.
Many economists have said that they do not believe that the road to recovery has even begun, believing the unemployment situation will get worse before it gets better.
Tracking System Direct would like to extend it's thoughts and prayers to everyone effected by the great recession.
