Can Tiger Take Another Major?

Winning a major championship is one of the most difficult tasks that any golfer can achieve, but winning one where winds are gusting over 40mph is even more challenging. That is what the golfers playing the British Open at the Old Course in St. Andrews had to face in day 2 of the tournament.

The major championships are typically only reserved for the golfing elite, Palmer, Nicklaus, Mickelson and of course Tiger Woods. However, the almighty Woods has looked human since he returned to professional golf after a hiatus to attend to personal family matters. Making things even more interesting is the recent decisions by Woods to separate from his swing coach and the putter that had helped him win 13 major championships. As things stand with the tournament going into the last 36 holes, Woods sits 8 strokes back of an unlikely leader, with his fans and fellow competitors now wondering if the man who was at one time the most feared man on the golf course still has what it takes to hoist the trophy come Sunday.

Clearly, what makes the Old Course challenging is not the numerous bunkers, but rather the unpredictable conditions. When the sun is shining and wind is weak, golfers have no problem posting low numbers, but when the conditions are wet and windy, the result can be a whole lot of trouble. The golfers who took the course on Friday learned first hand how vicious St. Andrews could be when the wind kicks up.
