With unemployment numbers not coming down, a dollar weakening against major currencies across the globe and government spending increasing on seemingly a daily basis, many people still believe the recovery is far from here. Making the situation worse is the latest news that was released today that found consumer confidence eroded to the lowest level since earlier this year. With unemployment continuing to be a concern for most Americans, people all across the nation are pinching pennies and are becoming much more careful with their spending habits. This is because uncertainty is in the air, and many Americans are now feeling it is better to keep cash in the pocket rather than purchase that new handbag or pair of shoes. When consumers are not spending, retailers are not making money, and the whole economy suffers. With the current state of the U.S. economy crawling at best, this GPS tracking system company wants to know how confident you are the economy is on the rebound?
The latest consumer confidence report has once again reminded Wall Street and Main Street that the economy is still fragile, and the outlook is foggy. One of the more concerning components of the consumer confidence report was that many Americans are not optimistic about future employment potential as jobs are becoming more and more scarce in many regions. Even if Wall Street makes considerable gains, everyday Americans could care less because the thing that most folks are concerned with is employment. Jobs pay the bills and allow us to have disposable income to spend, but with many employers still not hiring in large numbers, many Americans are simply lost in the shuffle. This is because it does not matter how strong a companies' quarterly or annual earnings are if that company is not hiring more people. Earnings may impress Wall Street, but they sure as hell don't mean a thing to Main Street if they are not accompanied with job opportunities.
